Santander emerges as a key tourism destination in Colombia

The Santander department in Colombia has emerged as a prominent destination for tourism, offering a mix of historical architecture and unique natural landscapes.

Zapatoca, often referred to as the ‘German town of Colombia,’ is recognized for its historical European influence stemming from 19th and 20th-century immigrants. The municipality, known for its temperate climate, has been included in the UN Tourism ‘Best Tourism Villages’ list. Key sites include Calle Lengerke, the Cueva del Nitro, and the Los Guanes lookout point.

Other notable locations in the region include San Gil, a hub for adventure tourism, and Barichara, known for its colonial architecture. Additionally, the Quebrada Las Gachas has gained popularity as a ‘natural jacuzzi.’ Its rock formations and circular pools have drawn comparisons to the Fairy Pools in Scotland due to the way water has eroded the stone over time.
