Santander expands auto insurance via Mapfre subsidiary Verti

Santander has expanded its auto insurance offerings by incorporating Verti, a subsidiary of Mapfre, into its bancassurance portfolio. This move aims to provide a broader spectrum of coverage options and cater to a wider range of drivers, reinforcing the existing strategic alliance between Santander and Mapfre.

As of the end of the first half of the year, the Santander-Mapfre partnership held 260,000 policies, with 152,000 specifically in the auto insurance sector. The bank views the motor segment as a key area for continued growth and is implementing initiatives to increase contracting rates and refine product offerings.

In a related development regarding market performance, Mapfre has been identified as the most recommended auto insurer in Spain according to the July 2026 ICEA Auto Insurance Customer Experience Barometer. Mapfre achieved a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 21.3, significantly higher than the market average of 10.7. The company also maintains leadership in the home insurance segment.
