Santander and Nvidia sign three-year AI partnership

Banco Santander and Nvidia have entered a three-year collaboration framework to advance artificial intelligence initiatives across the banking group. The partnership focuses on foundation models, AI agents, fraud and anti-money laundering capabilities, real-time decision-making, and advanced simulation tools, such as a banking digital twin.

Through the Santander AI Lab, the bank is transitioning from large, general-purpose models to smaller, domain-specific models tailored for precise banking functions. In experimental customer service trials, this strategy reduced execution costs from approximately €5 per interaction to roughly €0.03, while simultaneously improving conversational quality.

Key technological developments include the ‘Model Arena’ platform for evaluating open-weight models, the use of Nvidia NeMo Customizer for model fine-tuning, and the implementation of Nvidia Kumo for structured data intelligence. These capabilities are being integrated into the bank’s core infrastructure using Nvidia Dynamo-Triton.
