Santander Port Handles 3.5 Million Tonnes of Cargo in First Half of 2026

The Port of Santander recorded 3.492 million tonnes of cargo in the first six months of 2026, a 1.3% increase over the same period a year earlier. General cargo accounted for 54% of the total, while liquid bulk rose 3.5% and solid bulk 2%, driven especially by agro‑food products. Container traffic reached 85,770 TEUs, up 7%, and automobile shipments totaled 174,503 units, a 3.4% rise.

Port Authority President César Díaz highlighted the growth as evidence of a sustained upward trend, aiming to reach eight million tonnes annually. Ongoing infrastructure projects include the construction of the Raos 6 quay, expansion of the car‑silo, capacity upgrades at Raos 2, and refurbishments of several other quays, as well as improvements to logistics zones, customs facilities, and climate‑resilience measures.
