Sant’Anna di Cona Hospital performs first robot-assisted cochlear implants
The Sant’Anna di Cona Hospital has successfully performed its first three robot-assisted cochlear implant surgeries. This experimental approach aims to preserve residual hearing and delicate anatomical structures within the inner ear.
The surgical team, led by Otorhinolaryngology Unit Director Stefano Pelucchi and surgeon Michela Borin, operated on two adults and one adolescent suffering from severe or profound hearing loss. For the adolescent patient, the robotic technique was specifically chosen to ensure the highest level of precision when inserting the electrode, thereby protecting the sensitive structures of the cochlea for long-term health and future technological compatibility.
