Santarém jury sentences woman to 21 years for murder

A jury in Santarém has sentenced Adriana de Farias Gomes to 21 years in prison for the 2018 murder of Caio Willian Ferreira Coelho. The conviction was based on qualified homicide involving a futile motive and the use of a method that prevented the victim from defending himself.

The incident occurred at a commercial establishment in Praia do Maracanã, where a group attacked the victim with knives and glass bottles. Evidence indicated that Adriana struck Coelho in the back with a bottle neck.

Co-defendant Edinei Farias Gomes was acquitted by the jury and released from custody. Following the verdict, Adriana was taken to the 16th Civil Police Station before being transferred to a penitentiary complex to serve her sentence.
