Sant’Elpidio a Mare to rename gymnasium after Emidio Macerata

The municipality of Sant’Elpidio a Mare will honor Emidio Macerata (1916–1996) on August 29 by renaming the “Mirella” gymnasium to “Palestra Mirella Emidio Macerata.” The ceremony marks thirty years since his passing.

Macerata was a prominent local industrialist and benefactor who founded the Mirella footwear company. He played a significant role in the region's sporting history by sponsoring the “Vita” table tennis club, which achieved numerous national and international titles under his presidency. In 1968, he funded the construction of the gymnasium to support local athletics. Beyond sports, Macerata was involved in founding local gymnastics and football sections and served as the president of the municipal assistance agency.
