Santiago Urrutia holds third in TCR World Tour standings after China races

Uruguayan driver Santiago Urrutia remains in contention for the FIA TCR World Tour title after the seventh round at the Zhejiang International Circuit in China. Despite facing mechanical challenges and carrying 40 kilograms of ballast in his Geely Preface, Urrutia secured a third-place finish in the opening race of the weekend.

In the subsequent races, Urrutia faced significant pressure from the Hyundai teams. Mikel Azcona and Norbert Michelisz dominated the wet conditions, with Azcona securing a crucial victory to extend his championship lead. Urrutia experienced mixed results, including a fifth-place finish in the second race and a tenth-place finish in the third after a tire issue forced an unscheduled pit stop.

Following the events in China, the championship standings place Mikel Azcona in the lead with 413 points, followed by Santiago Urrutia with 380 points, and Norbert Michelisz with 362 points. With only two races remaining in the season, the title race remains highly competitive among the top three drivers.
