Santiago and A Coruña launch community composting initiatives
Local governments in Santiago and A Coruña are implementing initiatives to promote organic waste management and circular economy practices.
In Santiago, the “Nos Compostamos Bien 2” program has reached over 300 beneficiaries, including 200 educational establishments and more than 100 organizations across the Metropolitan Region. The initiative provides composting kits and training to help communities transform organic waste into resources. Governor Claudio Orrego emphasized that the program aims to build a cleaner, more sustainable region through concrete community participation.
In A Coruña, the City Council has announced a call for the distribution of 80 domestic composters. These 300-liter units, equipped with aerators and thermometers, will be provided free of charge to individuals, educational centers, and non-profit entities with suitable installation space. The program seeks to facilitate the separation of organic waste at the source for use in gardens and green spaces.
