Santiago Beruete visits UDLAP to discuss philosophy and nature
Spanish anthropologist, philosopher, and writer Santiago Beruete visited the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) in Mexico as part of a collaboration between the university and the Embassy of Spain in Mexico. During his visit, Beruete conducted a creative workshop and delivered a lecture titled “Abecedario Verde.”
Beruete presented his book, “Filosíntesis,” which he describes as a “philosophical kaleidoscope” designed to help individuals navigate modern complexities. The work uses the teachings of the plant world to reflect on human existence, addressing themes such as mental health, death, love, and the eco-social crisis. He characterizes the book as a manual for “philosophical self-defense” or an ethical compass for living.
His work also explores the concept of “Verdolatría,” emphasizing a reconnection with the green cosmos and the adaptive intelligence of nature. Beruete suggests that integrating nature into urban environments—through vertical forests or rooftop farms—is a realistic utopia for modern society.
