Santiago Catrofe wins gold and sets record at South American Games
Uruguayan athlete Santiago Catrofe won the gold medal in the 10,000-meter race at the South American Games (Odesur) in Santa Fe, Argentina. Catrofe set a new competition record with a time of 28:16.79, securing direct qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.
In field hockey, the Uruguayan men's team secured a bronze medal after defeating Brazil in a shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The Uruguayan women's hockey team also earned a bronze medal by defeating Paraguay 9-0. Argentina claimed the gold medal in both the men's and women's hockey categories.
