Santiago child dies after falling from 13th-floor apartment

A three-year-old child died after falling from a 13th-floor balcony in a residential complex in Santiago, Chile, on Monday night. The incident occurred during a social gathering when the child reportedly climbed onto a ledge and fell to the street below.

Authorities from the Investigative Police (PDI) Homicide Brigade have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fall. Preliminary inspections of the apartment revealed significant safety deficiencies, including broken window locks and the absence of safety netting on the balcony.

The victim, described as being of foreign origin, was transported to the Hospital de Urgencia Asistencia Pública, where medical staff confirmed his death. The Metropolitan Center North Prosecutor's Office is overseeing the case to determine potential legal responsibilities.
