Santiago congress to explore transatlantic travel narratives
An international congress titled “Digital Cartography and Transatlantic Travel: An Encounter between Spain and Latin America” will be held at the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) in Santiago from September 29 to October 1, 2026. Organized by the UDD Faculty of Communications and the CSIC Institute of Language, Literature, and Anthropology (ILLA), the event will explore how travel serves as a cultural narrative for territories and their inhabitants.
The program will examine the evolution of travel storytelling, ranging from historical diaries to contemporary digital visualization. Key themes include the role of female travelers, such as María Graham and Juana Manuela Gorriti, and the intersection of literature, journalism, and history. Discussions will also cover specific geographic areas like Patagonia and the Magallanes fjords.
