Santiago de Compostela to host 82-million-euro AI factory

Santiago de Compostela is set to become a key player in Europe’s artificial intelligence strategy with the establishment of a new AI factory. The project, known as 1HealthAI, involves an investment of 82 million euros to develop infrastructure led by the Centro de Supercomputación de Galicia (CESGA) and the CSIC.

The funding is composed of 41 million euros from EuroHPC JU, 24 million from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and 17 million from the Xunta de Galicia. The facility will be centered around a large European supercomputer optimized for AI, located at the new CESGA headquarters in the A Sionlla industrial estate.

Specializing in the “One Health” concept, the infrastructure will integrate human, animal, and environmental health. Applications are expected to span personalized medicine, biotechnology, agriculture, and the circular bioeconomy. The project is estimated to create approximately 100 direct jobs and involves collaboration with Galician public universities and various international entities.

In a related development regarding regional innovation, the CTV Forum 2026 will take place in A Coruña on October 1. The event will address advancements in sustainable energy, quantum communications, and disruptive AI, focusing on the technological impact of innovation within Galicia.
