This incident follows a series of reported sanitary issues at the hospital, including cockroach infestations, sewage leaks, and deteriorating infrastructure.

Simultaneously, security concerns are rising at local medical centers. Reports indicate that an intruder entered the Clínica de Los Ángeles, which is currently functioning as a maternity home, to threaten and rob a pregnant woman at knifepoint. Community members have raised alarms regarding the lack of surveillance and effective security protocols in these facilities, noting that thefts of personal belongings and medical equipment have become recurring issues in several Santiago de Cuba hospitals.
