Santiago de los Caballeros honors nine UASD medical graduates

The Municipal Council of Santiago de los Caballeros has recognized nine doctors from the 1982 graduating class of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). The distinction, established via resolution 3528-26, honors their 44-year career and contributions to medicine in the Dominican Republic and abroad.

Five doctors were named ‘Adopted Children of Santiago’: Elicia Novas Mateo de Velásquez, Fausto Antonio Hernández Alberto, Marino Pérez Abreu, Pedro Celestino Vargas Colón, and Nixara Mariel Rodríguez Inocencio de Castellanos. Four others—Juan Bautista Espaillat Fernández, Nelson Rafael Leonidas Grullón Estrella, Víctor E. Peralta Sánchez, and Wilhelm T. Lawrence Riggio—received the title of ‘Distinguished Children of Santiago’.
