Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to close for 55 hours for runway maintenance
Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires will close for 55 hours due to preventive maintenance on its main runway. The shutdown is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, and will last until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27.
Approximately 900 flights, including both domestic and international services, will be affected. According to Aeropuertos Argentina, about 360 flights have been rescheduled, while the remaining 540 will be transferred to Ezeiza International Airport. This shift is expected to increase Ezeiza's operations by nearly 80%, rising from a typical 530 movements to approximately 940 during the closure period.
The maintenance is part of a larger $85 million infrastructure improvement project managed by the Eurnekian family. While the first phase focused on expanding the North Platform and check-in areas, the current phase aims to improve passenger experience through enhanced security scanning technology, new VIP lounges, and expanded dining and retail options.
