Santiago del Estero celebrates 473rd anniversary with month‑long cultural festivities

The Argentine province of Santiago del Estero is marking its 473rd anniversary with an intensive program of cultural, sporting and tourism events throughout July. Highlights include the 24th edition of the traditional Marcha de los Bombos, which begins with a vigil on July 17 featuring a Pachamama ceremony, regional music performances, theatrical‑documentary presentations and tributes to local legends such as Carlos Carabajal.

The march proceeds on July 18 with three columns converging at Parque Aguirre, followed by a final day of concerts, dance and a "Domingo de Abrazos y Despedidas" on July 19. Parallel to the march, the fifth edition of "La Peña de los Bombos" is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at Club Juventud, showcasing artists like Peteco Carabajal, Juan Saavedra and the Ronda Legüera. Delegations from multiple Argentine provinces and international visitors are expected, reinforcing the event’s role as a major regional cultural gathering.

The celebrations also feature a craft fair, regional food stalls, and a series of recognitions for prominent malambo performers, underscoring the city’s commitment to preserving and promoting its folkloric heritage.
