Santiago del Estero specialists address zoonotic diseases and climate change
Specialists at the Universidad Nacional de Santiago del Estero held a seminar focused on the relationship between climate change and zoonotic diseases. The event aimed to provide an exchange of information regarding how environmental modifications and phenomena such as El Niño influence the emergence, transmission, and expansion of diseases that affect human populations.
Participants included professionals from public health, epidemiology, environmental health, veterinary medicine, and human medicine. Aldo Gavícola, director of Preventive Medicine for the provincial Ministry of Health, emphasized the necessity of epidemiological surveillance to prevent and respond to outbreaks, noting that climate change can alter the conditions in which disease vectors develop.
