Lavalleja administration faces labor and political tension
Political and administrative tensions are rising in Lavalleja, Uruguay, involving the local government and the National Party. Members of the National Party have criticized Intendant Daniel Ximénez following an extraordinary session of the Departmental Board. The opposition raised concerns regarding the non-renewal of annual contracts for approximately 140 workers, noting that contracts were instead being renewed for only two months, creating job uncertainty and potential labor precarity.
Simultaneously, an attempt to reorganize work shifts in sensitive municipal areas, such as the financial sector, has failed. The administration proposed a double-shift system to accommodate the Intendant’s professional schedule and surgical commitments, but the plan was blocked by labor unions.
