Santiago del Teide police union reports critical staffing shortages

The Professional Union of Local Police and Firefighters (SPPLB) has issued a public warning regarding the critical situation facing the Local Police force in Santiago del Teide. The union cites a significant lack of personnel caused by retirements and officers transferring to other departments with better working conditions.

According to the SPPLB, these shortages have led to severe operational deficiencies, including shifts lasting 12 to 24 hours without active patrols. During these periods, the police headquarters has reportedly remained closed, hindering the ability to provide continuous service or respond to emergencies. Officers have also reported being forced to perform duties alone, increasing risks to their physical integrity and the safety of residents and visitors.
