Santiago Intermodal Station occupied by housing rights protesters

Dozens of people, primarily young individuals, have occupied the Santiago Intermodal Station to hold a protest camp demanding housing rights. The occupation follows a large demonstration in the Alameda, where local police estimated between 300 and 400 people gathered.

The movement was sparked by the recent eviction of a woman named Maricarmen, who had lived in her home for seven decades before reaching an agreement with Urbagestión to remain in her residence. The Vivenda Compostela union stated that this case served as a catalyst for long-standing grievances regarding housing conditions across Spain.

In addition to housing rights, protesters expressed concerns regarding the impact of tourism on public spaces, claiming that the city is being transformed into an uninhabitable attraction for economic profit rather than serving its citizens.
