Santiago Journalists' Club targeted in robbery and vandalism

The Board of Directors of the Club Recreativo de los Periodistas de Santiago reported a robbery and act of vandalism at its facilities on Hispanoamericana Avenue on the night of Saturday, September 26.

Criminals reportedly broke door locks and forced shutters to access areas containing club assets. In addition to theft, the perpetrators caused intentional damage by breaking cables and scattering pool maintenance tools. The Board stated that the nature of the damage suggests a “clear and unequivocal intention to cause harm” and provoke instability within the institution.

The club is jointly managed by the Santiago branch of the Colegio Dominicano de Periodistas and the Fundación Periodismo en Reflexión, Inc. Officials noted that this incident follows a similar unsolved robbery in September 2014, where unidentified individuals stole equipment valued at approximately 250,000 pesos.
