Navarrete: Body of 14-year-old girl found in Yaque del Norte river

The body of a 14-year-old girl, identified as Josnely Álvarez, was recovered from the Yaque del Norte river in Navarrete, Dominican Republic, following a three-day search operation. The search involved approximately 60 members of the Civil Defense, the National Police, and the Dominican Army, utilizing drones and watercraft.

The incident began when two adolescents were reportedly traveling by motorcycle with Edwin Reinaldo Rodríguez Cruz. Following a dispute, Rodríguez Cruz admitted to attacking the girls with a knife. While a 16-year-old survivor was located and received medical and specialized assistance, the 14-year-old victim was found several kilometers downstream in the Pontón area.

Investigations are currently examining allegations of sexual abuse. While Rodríguez Cruz claimed the encounter was consensual and the subsequent violence was part of a dispute, the surviving adolescent has alleged that both girls were victims of sexual assault. The suspect is in custody and faces investigation by the Public Ministry.
