Santiago Martín Pech Pool to represent Mexico in Ibero-American science competition
Santiago Martín Pech Pool, a researcher from Conkal, Yucatán, has earned the opportunity to represent Mexico at the Ibero-American Final of the Solo de Ciencia competition in San José, Costa Rica, in November 2026.
Pech Pool secured his position by winning the Jury Prize at the inaugural national final held at the Universum Science Museum at UNAM. His three-minute monologue, titled ‘Del barrio a la academia: señales que dictan destinos’ (From the Neighborhood to Academia: Signals That Dictate Destinies), utilized an analogy between the biological behavior of stem cells and his personal life journey to connect with the audience.
A specialist in neuroimmuno-endocrinology, Pech Pool holds a doctorate in chemical-biological sciences and currently conducts research in molecular and cell biology at the Autonomous University of Querétaro. He aims to use the international platform to promote scientific outreach and inspire younger generations to pursue scientific careers.
