Santiago Metro announces major expansion and new lines
The Santiago Metro is undergoing significant expansion and modernization to improve connectivity across the Metropolitan Region. Current construction projects include Line 7, which is over 42% complete and aims to connect Renca with Vitacura by 2028, and the Line 6 extension, which has reached 55% progress with a projected inauguration in 2028.
Future developments include Line 9, intended to link central Santiago with Puente Alto by the early 2030s, and Line 8, which is expected to begin partial operations in 2032. Additionally, the planned Line A will connect the underground network to the airport, currently in the engineering and planning stages with a target date of 2032. Other planned routes include Line 10, connecting Lo Espejo, Maipú, La Cisterna, and La Florida.
Safety upgrades are also underway, including the installation of platform screen doors across all 27 stations of Line 1, a project expected to be completed by 2028.
