Santiago Nieto Castillo appointed Morena state coordinator in Querétaro

The appointment of Santiago Nieto Castillo as the state coordinator for Morena in Querétaro has drawn criticism from opposition parties. Local deputies from the PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano suggest the move will trigger a political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Representatives from Movimiento Ciudadano indicated that the designation could force other political forces to adjust their strategies, noting they may run a female candidate for the governorship. Meanwhile, PAN deputies questioned Nieto Castillo’s political performance and urged Morena to maintain consistency with its anti-corruption rhetoric. A local official also characterized Nieto Castillo as a profile that has faced previous electoral defeats. In response, Morena deputy Sinuhé Piedragil Ortiz defended the decision, stating it resulted from internal party commissions and national leadership decisions.
