Santiago Oeste police shooting sparks family dispute

The family of Eudy Antonio Infante de León, known as ‘Nifi’, has criticized the actions of the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) following his death during a police operation in Santiago Oeste, Cienfuegos.

Family members claim Infante de León was in a peaceful state at the time of the incident. One relative stated that while he was involved in drug sales, he was not a ‘saint’ and was behaving calmly near a woman who had recently given birth.

In contrast, police reports indicate that upon noticing the presence of officers on Sergio Hernández Street, Infante de León drew a .38 caliber revolver and opened fire on the agents. Police responded to the threat, wounding the suspect. Infante de León was transported to the Hospital del Ensanche Libertad, where he later died. Authorities seized a firearm at the scene.

According to police records, the deceased had six police records, three judicial records, and two travel bans. He was also linked to investigations involving robberies and a homicide from January 2023.
