Santiago Oeste security meeting addresses community needs
Minister of Interior and Police Faride Raful led a Security, Citizenship, and Gender Table in Santiago Oeste to coordinate responses between local authorities and community representatives. Held at the Ramón Dubert Novo Polytechnic Institute, the meeting addressed local concerns including preventive patrolling, street lighting, camera installation, road repairs, and the quadrant security strategy.
Community members also raised issues regarding noise pollution, solid waste accumulation, ravine conditions, and traffic disruptions caused by monorail construction. Raful committed to channeling these requests to the appropriate institutions and strengthening video surveillance and lighting in sectors such as Cienfuegos.
Local leaders participated in the dialogue, with Mayor Eddy Báez noting the delivery of a fire truck to the Fire Department and requesting more lighting, while Governor Rosa Santos highlighted workshops on violence prevention. Raful reported that Santiago's homicide rate has reached five per 100,000 inhabitants, the lowest recorded in the province, and emphasized the need for continued cooperation between the central government, police, and the public.
