Santiago protesters join global solidarity march for Palestine

Protests and human rights organizations in Santiago, Chile, have joined a global mobilization to express solidarity with Palestine and denounce the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Demonstrators marched through central Santiago, including the area near La Moneda, calling for an end to violence and demanding stricter sanctions and an arms embargo against Israel.

Human rights organizations have issued statements condemning the situation in Palestinian territories, characterizing the conflict as a genocide. These groups specifically addressed the concept of ‘pinkwashing,’ arguing that the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals are being instrumentalized to justify military occupation. They noted that Palestinian LGBTQIA+ activists, including groups such as Aswat and alQaws, are also directly impacted by displacement and violence.

Participants in the march included student federations, labor unions, and local authorities. Leaders from the Recoleta and Pudahuel municipalities expressed concern over the perceived inability of international politics to halt ongoing conflicts.
