Santiago shopping center enters judicial administration amid property dispute
A judicial administrator, Brunilda Batista, has taken control of the Isabel Emilia Shopping Center in Santiago following a court order from the Second Chamber of the Santiago Court of Appeals. The takeover, which occurred on August 7 with the assistance of public force, follows a 12-year legal battle regarding the property's ownership and administration.
The dispute involves allegations of forged signatures, fraudulent mortgages, and a contested public auction. Legal representatives claim the property originally belonged to Dr. Adalberto Blas Liranzo Jorge before being transferred through questionable documentation.
Local merchants have reported irregular evictions, loss of investments, and intimidation. Business owners, including representatives from Aroma Kitchen and Venezuela Burger, have alleged that some were removed without judicial notification. Batista stated her role is to preserve assets and protect the rights of tenants, while also noting reports of service sabotage and intimidation campaigns.
