Santiago teenager drowns in Yaque del Norte River
A 15-year-old boy, identified as Reinaldo Pie, drowned on Sunday afternoon in the Yaque del Norte River in Santiago. The incident occurred near the La Otra Banda gate, an area where swimming is strictly prohibited due to dangerous water currents.
Family members reported the teenager's disappearance around 3:30 PM. Emergency response teams, including the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1, the Fire Department, the National Police, and the Santiago Civil Defense Aquatic Brigade, launched a search operation. The victim's body was recovered approximately two hours later.
The deceased's father has been identified as Alberto Cariño, a Haitian national. The body has been placed under the custody of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), the Homicide Department, and the Prosecutor's Office for legal procedures.
