Santiago Tianguistenco honors boxer Salvador Sánchez

Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico, held ceremonies to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the death of legendary featherweight boxing champion Salvador ‘Sal’ Sánchez.

The tributes included a commemorative conference at the Lupita Theater and a special WBC belt presented to the Sánchez family by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán. Family members, including Sánchez’s mother, siblings, and son Cristian Sánchez, participated in the events alongside local authorities such as Municipal President Erika Olea de la Torre.

Following a memorial mass, a guard of honor was held at the cemetery where floral arrangements were laid. The commemorations concluded with a traditional meal and an amateur boxing tournament designed to support and encourage new boxing talent in honor of the champion’s legacy.
