Santiago Vega shot dead in Ingeniero White, Argentina

Nineteen‑year‑old footballer Santiago Vega was killed by a gunshot to the neck outside a pub in Ingeniero White, Buenos Aires Province, early Saturday morning (around 05:30). Police responded to a 911 call, found Vega already deceased, and recovered a .22‑calibre pistol from the suspect’s vehicle.

The alleged shooter, 25‑year‑old Joaquín Eleazar Larraburu, fled the scene in a Volkswagen Gol, was pursued for several kilometres and was apprehended after his car collided at the roundabout of Route 3 and Pedro Pico. He has been charged with aggravated homicide. The investigation is being handled by Fiscalía N° 5 of Bahía Blanca, with forensic examination of the weapon and scene. Club Atlético Puerto Comercial, where Vega played in the youth divisions, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
