Widespread water and power outages scheduled across Chile, Costa Rica, Argentina and other Latin American areas
Utility companies in several Latin American regions announced scheduled service interruptions this week. In Costa Rica, the Empresa de Servicios Públicos de Heredia (ESPH) will halt water delivery to about 8,064 residents of San Rafael de Heredia on July 30 while it washes the Río II treatment plant. In Chile, Aguas Andinas plans multiple water cuts affecting thousands of residents in Santiago's communes—including Recoleta, La Reina, La Florida and others—between July 28 and 30 for valve changes and regulator maintenance. The regional health authority in Huasco has also imposed a temporary restriction on potable‑water use, limiting it to basic domestic hygiene while recovery work continues after severe flooding. Rural water services in the Limarí province report extensive damage, leaving many APRs without supply. In Argentina, the Ente Descentralizado de Obras Sanitarias (EDOS) scheduled a water outage for several neighborhoods of Concordia on July 30 for valve replacement and network extension. Guatemala’s EEGSA will suspend water service in Antigua on the same day for electrical maintenance. Parallel electricity outages are also planned: LUMA Energy in Puerto Rico experienced an unscheduled outage that left roughly 377,000 customers without power, while Enel in Chile will cut electricity for several hours in multiple Santiago districts on July 30. In Colombia, CEDENAR and ISA Energía are conducting maintenance that will temporarily interrupt power in various municipalities, including Bogotá and the Nariño department. Across the region, utilities advise residents to store water, limit usage, and prepare for brief power interruptions.
