Santin Roveda proposes zero IPVA tax for Brazilian taxi and ride-hailing drivers
Brazilian Federal Deputy Santin Roveda (União Brasil-PR) is proposing a national initiative to eliminate the IPVA (Motor Vehicle Property Tax) for ride-hailing and taxi drivers across Brazil. The proposal aims to benefit professionals using platforms such as Uber and 99, as well as traditional taxi drivers.
Roveda, the former president of Detran-PR, previously supported measures in Paraná that reduced the state's IPVA from 3.5% to 1.9% and exempted motorcycles up to 170cc from the tax. He argues that for these drivers, vehicles are essential tools for work rather than luxury items, and reducing tax burdens will increase the disposable income of working families.
