Santo André blood bank opens on July 9 holiday; Botucatu municipal guards donate at UNESP Hemocenter

The GSH Banco de Sangue de Santo André will operate on the July 9 state holiday, staying open from 07:00 to 12:00 to encourage donors during a period that usually sees low attendance. "Even during holidays and school vacations hospitals keep treating patients who need blood for surgeries, treatments and emergencies," said Ricardo Cortez, the bank’s collection leader, urging residents of Santo André and the wider ABC region to donate.

In Botucatu, members of the Guarda Civil Municipal and trainees from Botucatu and Porto Ferreira volunteered to give blood at the UNESP Hemocenter. The action was intended to boost regional blood stocks for patients across several municipalities. The municipal guard highlighted that a single donation can benefit up to four people, emphasizing the role of civic forces in supporting public health.

Both initiatives aim to mitigate seasonal shortages and reinforce supplies for hospitals serving their respective communities.
