Santo André City Council begins leadership succession process

Following the general elections, political focus in Santo André has shifted toward the succession of the municipal legislative leadership. At least three council members are currently negotiating to succeed Carlos Ferreira (MDB), who has held the position since January 2023 and is legally barred from seeking a second consecutive term.

Marcos da Farmácia (PSB), a veteran in his third non-consecutive term, is reportedly the most advanced in negotiations due to his rapport with colleagues. Other contenders include government leader Fabio Lopes (Cidadania) and Edilson Santos, known as Edilson do Torresmo (PRD). Although the elected official will only take office in January, the selection process will take place within this year.
