Santo André hosts second Corre das Lanternas night run
The second edition of the Corre das Lanternas event took place in Santo André, Brazil, drawing 700 participants. The event features a 6.5-kilometer course around the municipal building, where runners use flashlights and mobile phones for illumination instead of the torches used in the original race held between 1962 and 1975.
Organized by Sesc Santo André in partnership with the Stab running group, the event is part of the Sesc Move Week. This year's edition introduced musical accompaniment via a DJ on a bicycle to encourage participants. Organizers noted that the rebranding to ‘corre’ aims to shift the focus from traditional competitive racing toward personal movement and community gathering.
