Santo António - O Casamenteiro de Lisboa becomes top film in Portugal

The Portuguese comedy “Santo António - O Casamenteiro de Lisboa”, directed by Ruben Alves, has become the most-watched film in Portuguese cinemas. Within just four days of its release, the production attracted 40,905 spectators and generated over €29,000 in revenue, surpassing major international titles such as “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: A New Day”.

Following a premiere at the CCB in Lisbon attended by figures such as Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Carlos Moedas, the film has overtaken previous domestic successes like “Playback” in terms of speed to reach its viewership milestones. The film features lead actress Rita Blanco, who has discussed themes of solitude and freedom of choice in relation to the production.
