Santo Cristo de La Grita draws thousands of pilgrims in Venezuela

Thousands of faithful gathered in La Grita, Táchira, to celebrate the Santo Cristo de La Grita, marking the 416th anniversary of its reported miracle in 1610. The solemn Eucharist featured a homily by Monseñor Lisandro Durán, who emphasized the image’s spiritual significance beyond its artistic value.

The revered statue wore a special perizoma commemorating the city’s 450th founding anniversary, and pilgrims arrived on foot and by various transport modes to pray, give thanks, and request blessings. After the ceremony, church authorities announced the image would be returned to the Basilica of the Holy Spirit later that day.
