Managua's Santo Domingo de Guzmán Festival Draws Thousands

The traditional procession of the revered image of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, known locally as “Minguito,” began on 1 August in Managua, marking the start of a ten‑day celebration. Thousands of promesantes, families and devotees gathered for the Holy Eucharist, the descent of the image, and a series of cultural events.

Mayor Reyna Rueda highlighted coordinated efforts by the municipal government, the National Police, United Firefighters, Cruz Blanca and the Ministry of Health to ensure a safe, peaceful environment. Vice‑mayor Enrique Armas noted the extensive cultural, religious and recreational agenda planned for August. The image, recently restored after more than 140 years, was carried by representatives of various organizing committees and the public, emphasizing broad participation.

The festivities include daily masses, traditional music, dances, a horse‑drawn parade and other rituals that attract visitors from across the country and abroad, reinforcing the faith and cultural identity of the Nicaraguan people.
