Authorities investigate fatal attacks on community leader and activist

Authorities in the Dominican Republic and Cuba are investigating several violent incidents. In Los Alcarrizos, Dominican Republic, community leader and political activist José Frank Valerio was shot and killed by two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle while sitting at a transport stop. Investigators recovered five 9mm shell casings at the scene, and security footage is being analyzed to identify the suspects. Valerio's family stated he had no known enemies or recent threats.

In Havana, Cuba, prominent dissident and activist Diosbel Véliz Marín was found dead with stab wounds in the Altahabana district. Véliz Marín, a member of the Movement Opponents for a New Republic (MONR), had been working as a pedicab driver. While some suggest robbery as a possible motive, activists are calling for a transparent investigation into his death.

Other reported crimes include a fatal traffic accident in the Los Ríos sector of Santo Domingo involving a drunk driver, a fatal robbery in Jacagua, and an armed attack at a beer depot in Pueblo Nuevo, Mexico, which left two dead.
