Santo Domingo Este monument centerpiece missing

Questions have arisen regarding the whereabouts of the central piece of the Monument to the Bible, located in front of the Faro a Colón in Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic.

Former Mayor Manuel Jiménez publicly questioned the disappearance of the monument's centerpiece on social media, noting that the Bible, which was inaugurated in April 2024 during his administration, is no longer in its place. The monument was designed to serve as a religious tourism landmark and features a granite and marble platform surrounded by ten columns representing the Ten Commandments.

In November 2024, officials from the current Santo Domingo Este City Council, led by Mayor Dío Astacio, claimed the piece had been temporarily removed for maintenance due to weather-related damage, such as worn silicone and displaced screws. However, critics and citizens have expressed concern over the lack of permanent security for the site and the absence of clear, sustained explanations regarding the object's current location.
