Santo Domingo street names honor historical Dominican figures

The street names in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, serve as a form of public recognition for historical figures, including doctors, writers, journalists, and political opponents of the Trujillo dictatorship. While these names are essential for navigation and urban mapping, the identities of the individuals behind them often remain unknown to the general public.

One such figure is Luis F. Thomen, a physician and diplomat born in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1912. After earning his medical degree from the University of Santo Domingo in 1936, he balanced a medical career with diplomatic service. In 1945, he was appointed as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine. His namesake street is a major collector road within the National District's territorial planning.
