National District Mayor's Office prepares for Plásticos por Útiles Escolares

The National District Mayor's Office in Santo Domingo has finalized preparations for the third edition of ‘Plásticos por Útiles Escolares’, an environmental awareness event scheduled for Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Palacio Municipal.

Participants must present a national ID proving residency in the National District. For every 1,000 clean, compressed plastic bottles with caps exchanged, individuals can receive a backpack equipped with a tablet and a thermos, with a limit of two sets per ID.

A comprehensive security and logistics operation will be in place, involving approximately 400 personnel from the National Police, Army, Air Force, Civil Defense, and Red Cross. The deployment includes a mobile hospital, eight ambulances, six fire units, and aerial surveillance. To mitigate heat, the organizers have provided hydration stations, bathrooms, and tent tunnels along the route, which includes Paul Harris, Horacio Vicioso, and Juan de Dios V. Simó streets. The George Washington Avenue (Malecón) will not be part of the route this year.
