Santo Domingo utilities confront arrests over extortion and water service outage

Edesur Dominicana announced that the National Police detained two members of a Delmar‑contracted brigade accused of demanding money from customers in exchange for electrical work. The electricity distributor emphasized its zero‑tolerance policy for fraud, urged the public to report such requests, and pledged full cooperation with authorities.

The Corporation of Aqueduct and Sewerage of Santo Domingo (CAASD) reported a rupture of a 48‑inch water pipe caused by an ETED contractor, which reduced water production and distribution to numerous neighborhoods in Santo Domingo Este. Specialized crews are working continuously to repair the line and restore service, and the agency apologized for the inconvenience to residents.
