Santo Domingo water agency launches major sanitary system overhaul
The Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD) began a comprehensive replacement of the sanitary drainage system in the San Carlos sector, as announced by CAASD director Fellito Suberví. The project, part of the “La CAASD te escucha” program, targets chronic sewage overflows and flooding, with an investment of more than RD$900 million covering San Carlos and neighboring districts such as Villa Juana, Villa Agrícola, Villa Consuelo and Villa Francisca.
In Villa Juana, CAASD is installing 28,356 metres of new pipe, 6,500 new connections, and over 200 sanitary registers, an effort that will benefit more than 50,000 residents and is backed by over RD$630 million. Works are staged to limit traffic disruption, and completed sections will be repaved. The upgrades aim to improve public health, reduce flood risk and increase property values across the Gran Santo Domingo area.
