Santo Tomé cattle theft: Eight animals slaughtered at San Roque ranch

Eight cattle were stolen and slaughtered at the San Roque ranch in the Cuay Grande area of Santo Tomé. The incident was discovered on August 28 by a ranch worker in the La Costa pasture near the Uruguay River. According to reports, the perpetrators selected the best meat cuts and abandoned the remains of the animals.

Investigators are considering two main hypotheses: that Brazilian cattle thieves used canoes to transport the meat across the river, or that local Argentine citizens were involved, given the logistics required to slaughter and transport eight animals.

Local producers have expressed concern, noting that livestock theft has increased since the recent dismantling of the Lorenzo Romero Naval Prefecture detachment, which was located only 2,000 meters from the affected property.
