Santorini hosts Volcanoes 2026 festival with drone and firework display

The annual ‘Volcanoes 2026’ festival took place in Santorini on the evening of Saturday, September 19, 2026. The event featured a large-scale reenactment of a volcanic eruption centered around the island's iconic Caldera.

This year's celebration increased its technical scale by incorporating a drone light show involving approximately 650 drones, which created formations inspired by the island's geological history. The spectacle was complemented by fireworks launched from both Nea Kameni and from boats at sea. The display was visible from various locations across the island, including Fira, Imerovigli, and Therasia.

Running since 1991, the festival serves to connect the island's unique geomorphology and cultural identity with its volcanic heritage. To accommodate spectators, local services such as the Fira Old Port cable car operated until midnight, with free usage provided after 18:00.
